Iêda Maria Vargas : ウィキペディア英語版 | Iêda Maria Vargas
Iêda Maria Brutto Vargas (born December 31, 1944) is a Brazilian actress and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe in Miami Beach, Florida in 1963. Previously, she was Miss Brazil and was crowned by Maria Olívia Rebouças. She was the first person from her country to win a major international beauty pageant. Vargas is a native of Rio Grande do Sul. During her term she opened the Capital Plaza Mall in Landover Hills, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C.〔"Capital Plaza Center Opened by Gov. Tawes," by Donald L. Hymes, ''The Washington Post, Times Herald'', August 8, 1963, p. A17.〕 After living in Miami, for five years, Vargas returned to her native country, once again, as a permanent resident. Although having long abandoned the spotlights, she retains her celebrity status in Brazil, but, internationally, her fame has faded as she decided to keep a low-profile life, rather than pursuing an artistic career. ==See also==
